Keeping your personal information up-to-date ensures a smoother experience with Rem and helps us serve you better. We believe in keeping things fresh, and that includes ensuring that your account details stay current and accurate.

Whether you've moved to a new place, changed your email, or simply want to update your contact number, Rem's user-friendly interface allows for hassle-free updates. Here's what you need to know:

Why is updated personal information crucial?

Steps to update your personal information

Bear in mind that you might not be able to edit all your details — scroll down to see what you can and can't edit

  1. Access Account Settings: Navigate to the account icon located at the bottom right corner of the app on the navigation bar.
  2. Access Profile: Here, you'll find the 'Profile' button. Tap on it.
  3. Make Necessary Changes: Update fields like your display name, mobile number, and Rem tag as required. Ensure all information is accurate to avoid any future inconveniences.
  4. Save Changes: Rem automatically saves all the necessary updates you've made in real time. You might be prompted to enter your password or use biometric authentication for security reasons, if needed.

Helpful Tip: You can only update your display name, Rem tag, and mobile number from the 'Profile' section. To update your email, go the the 'Security' page, and to update your real name, address, and date of birth, you'll have to resubmit your KYC documentation for review and approval.

What you can and can't edit

  1. Real Name: If you have changed your name for any reason, we can help you update the name on your account when you contact our support. We'll ask you to send us a photo or scan of the legal document showing your name change (like your marriage certificate, deed poll, etc.) along with your new ID.

    To make the process easier, you can simply redo your KYC verification. To do this follow these steps: Account -> ID Verification & Limits -> Restart Verification
  2. Date of Birth & Address: Your date of birth and address can’t be changed by you after KYC verification. You'll need to redo your KYC verification to change your date of birth and address. To do this follow these steps: Account -> ID Verification & Limits -> Restart Verification
  1. Email: Email is considered a security feature even if you signed up with just a number. Once you add an email, it is treated as a security feature because it's the most reliable medium of communication. Follow the steps in this article to change your email.
  2. Mobile Number:
         
    (A) Profile Number -> This mobile number is what will also be used as a mobile money payment method if you enable “Use My Number” when sending money to others. The Profile Number will receive SMS alerts if a security Mobile Number is unavailable. You can change the Profile Number anytime from the 'Profile' section under 'Account'.

    (B) Security Number -> This mobile number will only appear and be active if you signed up using a mobile number. This will also be where you receive SMS alerts by default. The Profile Number will receive SMS alerts if a Security Number is unavailable. The Security Number can be found in the 'Security' section under 'Account'. You can change the Security Number by confirming your passcode, biometric, or password.

For certain critical updates, Rem might ask for additional verification to confirm your identity. This is a safety measure to protect your account and personal details.
